As a software engineer, I have to say that's flat out wrong. For example: Linux.

you mean you haven't figured out the way to work in a group????

step 1: force the fuckers to decide on something, otherwise you decide for them.

step 2: assign tasks in same fashion.

step 3: do your stuff kickass. watch as rest of group flounders.

the lynchpin (sp?) to this is that you are not the person responsible for putting it all together and handing it in. that way, you know you do the quality work, and have to deal minimally with anyone else.

i'd say that's pretty real world for ya. Laughing

I have my doubts that Linux has anything to do with group theory.

I learned this semester that it is possible to find families of solutions to PDEs with group theory- I guess you assume that there is a solution, and see what would happen to it if you translate it, rotate it, etc.. These transformations for groups (tm), which you can manipulate in the normal algebraic way, and generate actaul solutions from your assumed solution at the beginning.

Horray, beer!

I don't know what group theory is. It sounds like a bunch of Psychologists applying psuedo-scientific labels to perfectly obvious things. At any rate, Linux was developed by a shitload of people (a group, if you will) who aren't really in contact with each other. They just see improvements that can be made and send it in. A strong majority of software that's any good was developed by a group. It would be impossible to do most things by yourself.
