Not to say that budget is everything, but still, it's an important factor.

Also, we don't generally try to make movies that depict "Adolf Hitler as a soft-spoken man who charms his secretary and lovingly plays with his pet Alsatian".

Actually, I would buy the video or DVD of this, as long as it has English subtitles (I doubt that my ancient, unused German would be up to the challenge!). There has been a lot of interesting research done on his early days and on his medical condition that might help explain at least some of what he did. The story on Speer would also be interesting, as he was the one of the few German leaders who accepted some responsibility at Nuremburg. Goering was another very interesting guy, especially in this earlier years.

I tried reading some of the Nuremburg papers years ago, but it was tough going. Maybe when I have more time... Rolling Eyes

I'm still waiting for History of the World, Part II featuring "Hitler on Ice"

Hmm ... my point was that $16 million is apparently a huge movie budget in Germany. But I'd much rather see Hitler on Ice ... I've been waiting for that for a long time.

If you haven't already read Spandau I highly recommend It. It's the secret diaries of Albert Speer smuggled out of Spandau prison over the course of his 20 year sentence. I cant say enough good things about it. Much better then the Nuremburg papers with which I had the same problem.
With Spandau you get a variety of topics. Speers reflections on Naziism and Hitler, His relations with his fellow prisioners, the strange state of affairs that was Spandau prison- run in rotating shifts by the US, British, Soviets, and French, and the always compelling story of trying to stay sane while imprissoned for so long.

My one-seventh therefore corresponds to a small palace whose construction would cost more then a million marks. Never in my life have I lived so lavishly

*sniff* I miss you, Mel!

note: I found this fairly hysterical, that when I searched "Hitler on Ice" to see if there was any more news, that ghost search page that's really annoying popped up.

The top result for "Hitler on Ice" was "Gay African American Dating Site".
