even notice when you are poor bad shit that costs a lot of money to fix keeps happening to you?

i was away since wed for passover. came home last night to a broken hot water heater (40 gallons) that had leaked all over my apt.

i figured i would bitch about how i have emptied out the bottom of 6 closets, bailed water, ripped out 2 sections of carpets, soaked up water with towels, and now have to wait til monday to get it fixed cause it is easter sunday.

this blows.

Oh honey, that so sucks! Were you able to get the water out at all? I hope nothing really important got destroyed. Sad

We just had ours leak a week or two ago, but luckily we were there when it exploded so we were able to immediately turn it off. Only one closet got really flooded.

*hugs*

If you get a chance, make them put in a water dam underneath the new heater with an emergency shutoff valve. It's tough to explain what it is, but I saw this on a few home improvement shows. Basically, the plumber runs plumbing from the top of the heater down to the floor, where he installs the shutoff valve, then plumbs it back up to the heater's inlet.

If you're in an apt, doesn't the apartment complex cover all of this? Your renter's insurance should help you out with the lost items.

ok, well hard to explain easily.... in a condo but i don't own it. i rent it from my grandmother who does own it. she said she'll pay for the new tank and installlation just as if she were renting to anyone else. if i need my carpeting replaced (which i won't know for several days til i get everything dried out and i can put it back in) then homeowners insurance will cover it. lets just hope it doesn't have to be replaced. that would make things easier cause at this point it is already uber complicated.

If you need your carpet redone, go to Lomax Rug Company!!

All in all, that does suck. Sorry chica! (But it is one more reason I'm glad our water heater is in the basement...)
