So, I don't think these guys are going to get back to me. It's been about two weeks since I got the "we have your shit on file" notice.

I'm on track to be completely debt free in September. Perhaps I will just go part time at my current job, stay on Madison, and make my own games. Any feedback on that idea? I think it beats the alternative, where I stay full time for the next 15-20 years, pay off a house, and then start doing what I'd like to do with my life.

maybe stay full time and contribute to an open source game in your free time? though if part time gets you the kind of money where you can save and pay for necessities like food RAM and graphics cards then go for it.

Is full-time cutting into time that you're using elsewhere? If not, I wouldn't want to start paying for insurance on my own, and giving up whatever other goodies they give you, without looking at it really really hard first.

Also, is 2 weeks really that long? If they're looking at everyone's coding, and I mean, really looking at it, I would think 2 weeks would be too short.

Rob,

I'm interested in making and selling games. If I go with an online vedor (they typically take 10%) I would still need to sell less than 3,000 units a year at twenty bucks (standard indie game price) to make my current salary. Of course, I would have to pay for art and sound.

The salary question is moot. I have been *very* aggressively paying off my debt. Usually 1,000-1,500 goes to paying these people off every month. That averages out to half of what I clear, so when I am debt free, going part time means I still have the same amount of money to pay bills and enjoy happy fun gaming time.

I could continue to work full time and then do game development in my free time. At that rate, I would never finish anything *and* I would have no life.

Maz,

Trust me, I'm open to the idea of these guys emailing me back. Smile I recognize that there is still a chance, but I need to be prepared for the scenario that they don't get back to me. And if they don't ... it looks like I'm staying in Newark.

There's always another RPG or Conquer the Galaxy in a web browser clone. Take a look at the google web toolkit, or maybe some kind of J2EE application development.
