That book was banned at my high school years ago. If I remember right, Brian read it as part of his curriculum but they banned it before I took the same class the following school year. I did read it (checked it out from the same High School's library) and didn't see what all the fuss was about. I think the objection was to the part where the one kid pretends to take a picture of the other kid jerking off.
It was definately a better book than A Separate Peace. |

Heh... I had to read A Separate Peace in that same grade school I actually liked both books, but I was partial to The Chocolate War. What gets me is that parents are up in arms about one male student (in the book) calling another male student a "faggot" simply because he's making fun of them. I mean, shit... did those parents NEVER attend a grade- or high-school in their lives? That term is as frequently used as "hello" in most schools! Like banning this book is gonna curb that... |

John Wagner’s son attends Fallston High. He was among the parents who complained about the book at a board meeting. He said the mere fact that the book generated controversy meant it was better to remove it from the curriculum. |
Oh yeah, right, because never generating controversy is our goal. I mean, The Jungle generated controversy. Lets ban it! Who needs it? NOT US! Let's make a whole list!! Screw thinking!!! |

I get less upset about schools banning books and teaching creationism when I stop thinking of them as places of education and more as daycare/day prison for people too young to vote. |

I seem to recall books being banned long before that. |
