I was listening to WMMR, and they played the recording of what you hear if you call the "subversives" phone number on the back of the cd! Crazy stuff. I'm now much more interested in the marketing campaign than I was in the cd (which you could hear for free online)

Oh yeah, and the giving away the songs for free is apparently making the RIAA go nuts! Bwahahahaha!

It's a good album. Experimental, like The Fragile and With Teeth. Though this one is better than the previous two. The Downward Spiral still is and always will be his masterpiece, though.

I definitely like the new album better than some of the older ones.

But Pretty Hate Machine will never be replaced in that special place in my heart.

The best things about this album have nothing to do with the music sadly... I think it is better than 'with teeth', but that isn't saying much.

Track 11 (meet your master) is the only one that really stands out for me.

I "got" the album this morning. The obvious concept was anti-war, but it's actually anti-inequity. The hook to zero sum is great

shame on us
doomed from the start
god have mercy
on our dirty little hearts
shame on us
for all we have done
and all we are worth
just zeros and ones

The haves and have-not's (1's and 0's) theme is in alot of songs. Anyway- My favorite part is in The Great Destroyer where things fall apart. The songs where he is talking about the impovershed are very guitar/rock sounding (like survivalism), and the songs focusing on the rich countries are much more drum/synth driven. I really need to listen to it alot more but this seems to hold so far.
