What American accent do you have? (Best version so far)

My Results:

Midland

("Midland" is not necessarily the same thing as "Midwest") The default, lowest-common-denominator American accent that newscasters try to imitate. Since it's a neutral accent, just because you have a Midland accent doesn't mean you're from the Midland.

Yay neutral accent. Of course Miles has an accent all his own (he says inch so that rhymes with wrench and wench and begin so that it rhymes with ben).

Northeastern

Most people don't know it but this is actually what dictionaries are based on. If you don't believe me, pick up any American dictionary and look up "source" and "sauce" and you'll see they are written with the same vowel pronunciation.

And people say New Yorkers have funny accents.

I have hte "Midland" neutral reporter accent as well. This would be why, back when I tried sales, that I assumed a southern accent. So much more interesting to listen to! (and great for sales Razz)

Mid Atlantic

Also known as a "Philadelphia accent" but also heard in south Jersey, Baltimore, and thereabouts.

Nailed dead-to-rights!! I spent my entire 31+ years in Wilmington & Elsmere, so I'm good to go, baby!

Northern

You have a Northern accent. That could either be the Chicago/Detroit/Cleveland/Buffalo accent (easily recognizable) or the Western New England accent that news networks go for.

Don't be hatin' on my Elsmere roots!! I learned how to pick locks and hotwire cars at an advanced level in kindergarten!

Despite that, I don't speed.

I got midland too- but they didn't prompt for certain coloquialisms, like the fact that I usually add r's and subtract d's and t's. I try and downplay is but most people can tell by how I speak that I'm from Bawlmer, Merlin. Esp when I say things like warshing my dishes in wadder in the zink or going downy oshun. The even thicker balmerese has things like amblance, poe-lease, and awrning. My personal favorites tho are how we pronounce place names and street names that would drive a tourist mad! (not that philly doesn't have a bunch of places with indian names that don't sound like they're spelled- but around here it's even the english names too).
