So the service jackass at VW tried to tell me that my car manual was wrong and I need to have my oil changed twice as many times as it states in the service schedule. Apparently with "todays stop and go traffic" the regular service just isnt enough. Which is kinda funny since Heather's audi has THE SAME FUCKING ENGINE and IT only needs service when the manual says it needs it.

I'm guessing a lot of people fall for this or else they wouldnt try so hard. Anyway, I figure if my engine explodes I will sue VW for have an incorrect service schedule Razz

Those mechanics need to eat, man.

(Like me, they need to eat less.)

My new car actually has an 'engine oil life' meter, and I was shocked when they told me not to bother brining it in for an oil change until it was below 5% of life left. I guess I got less swindley dealership.. Razz

I checked mine and I've put about 3600 miles on it since my last oil change and it's at 50% of life. Stupid money grubbing car places!

Mine has the oil life feature too, but I totally ignore it. A good friend of the family repairs cars for a living and doesn't mind telling it to me straight- I can listen to the oil life meter, but I should change my oil seasonally anyway because of the severe seasonal changes we have in this region. He says I don't have to but my engine will last longer if I change the oil more frequently.

My oil life feature also dings at me when I turn the car on after I've surpassed 3,000 miles. It's annoying.

Both my Z3 and my brother's 1986 325 have oil life meters. They base the calculation on distance (obvious) and a few other things (some magical German formula, no doubt). BMW says using their oils means not having to change the oil some ridiculous amount of miles like 40,000. BMW also says iDrive is a great and easy to use feature when it's just plainly retarded and gay.

The truth is with synthetic oils the old addage of every 3000 miles is 99% bupkus. With full synthetic you can easily get 5000 miles or more on an oil change if you drive in a reasonable manner and regularly check your oil to ensure it is not accumulating too much dirt. However, if you drive like a complete knob, have to speed off at every green light as though it were a drag race of the non-transvestite kind, and like a general twit, then you should probably change your oil every 3000 miles or less if you bother to change it at all.
