Not really, no...

killing yourself would appear to always be in protest of something, and where he did it was obviously symbolic... but neither of those put a pin on why, and she says herself she doesn't know why. 55,000,000 other people are upset about the election too, and how many of them have killed themselves (Even though many of them threatened to, while this kid apparently never said so publicly, because if he ever said it you know it would be all the article was about).

A person drives all the way from GA to NY, takes a shotgun into a restricted area, and blows their brain out, and the media acts like the only reason it could be is the election. I'm not saying it didn't have a part in it, but come on. You can kill yourself in your room with a note saying "Blame Bush!", much quicker and more to the point. This person spent a full day traveling just for the purpose of killing himself, that says to me that it's not JUST as simple as "He was upset about the election."

I guess you are right. No one would ever get themselves killed over politics.

since when is someone saying you're upset about the election the same as someone saying they think you killed yourself over the election.

My sister's upset about the election. I just said it, and I said it before. Last I checked, I'm still having lunch with her though, and I don't think she's killed herself.

If you want to think that the only thing that caused this person to get in his car with a shotgun and drive all the way from Georgia to New York and kill himself was George Bush getting re-elected go right ahead. To me, that doesn't add up with "He was upset about the election." It's at least a 12 hr drive (and that doesn't include traffic that you're bound to hit) from GA to NYC, I can't believe that for 12 hrs the only thing this person was upset about was George Bush.

Since you want to be pedantic, where did I say or imply that I thought the election was the sole reason for his suicide? I never said this event happened in isolation. In any case, that is all irrelevant. We know for a fact he was very upset for the election. We also know he was suicidal. There is no way you can claim the election had nothing to do with his suicide. You have written nothing that disproves my original point that there are democrats over reacting to that Kerry lost. Until you come up with a real argument I can only assume that you agree with me.

we do agree. I don't think the election has nearly as much to do with it as it sounds like you do, but I'm not saying it has nothing to do with it. I'm not arguing your point that people are dramatically overreacting. I'm just arguing that this is HORRIBLE reporting. It's either bad reporting of a story that is there, or reporting of a story that isn't there.

The story (along with other ones I've read) doesn't give any hard evidence that suggests the real reason other than his mother saying he was upset about the election (Not very upset, just upset). Yet they come to the conclusion that the election was the only cause. They don't give any hard evidence to support that conclusion, just statement's that apply to a good chunk of the country. The fact that he did it at the WTC supports it, but it also supports a lot of other possibilities that they don't discount.

It's just bad reporting. If they want to blame it on the election, then they should ask "Why did this person kill themselves based on the outcome of an election?", to which the obvious answer is not that George Bush is a horrible man, but that the media (moore and the like) gave him such a horrible view filled with lies and falsehoods of what 4 more years would be like that he freaked out in fear of all those lies. Of course, they stop short of getting to that point.

further proof that you can't let the media form your opinions for you. Especially those you find on the 'net.

more like read the data you find but take it with a grain of salt. The author has an opinion, and the data may or may not be valid dependant upon the source.
