Since i've recently violated copyrights on ~4.7GB of data off the net i've become rather fond of Colony 5 which is a purdy awesome EBM group. The one song 'It was only a dream' is FUCKING AWESOME. Also the new (drum and bass) Dieselboy CD 'dungeon master' is repleate with phat beats. i especially like the track 'infection' which has cool clips from resident evil.

that is all.

Only new thing I picked up recently is Angelika Express - they're a German pop/punk/rock group whose CD I picked up on our honeymoon. It's pretty cool - has a very mid-90s non-grunge alternative vibe in the vein of Superdrag, The Pixies... Rather enjoyable, in my estimation, though the lyrics are all in German.

What is the best place to search for downloads nowdays? I lost a load of music when my computer succumbed to spyware a few months ago - mostly funny stupid obscure shit (like songs from cartoons and Dr. Demento and a few old Woody Guthrie's). Not the fare of iTunes were I to go that route. Suggestes?

The absolute best thing to do is borrow cds from people and rip those. I can never find anything i like on the post-napster networks so i've been getting stuff off shoutcast which is real hit or miss.

Interesting. How are you recording these shoutcasts? Is information on the artist/song recorded as well?

I prefer WinMX (http://www.winmx.com)for all my downloads. You can get most anything from there.

http://www.ratajik.com/StationRipper/

is what ive been using and yes it has artist/song names. the only thing is there is typically some overlap because of cross fading between tracks...

Oakenfold's new Great Wall CD is pretty sweet. Track 3 disk 2 makes me a happy man.

That's still really cool. Plus, my roomate Scott is a mix master and may be able to do something to eliminate the cross fading.

Yeah. So ... regarding the music I've been listening too. Scott on the turntables about sums it up.

I use Kazaa Lite K++. No spam and it's got sort of an IP blocker. Plus, you can sign on anonymously. That's the best place I've been able to find for obscure stuff. I'm not sure where else, unless you can get lucky in an IRC chatroom somewhere.
