R.I.P. Jerry Orbach...

you might remember him from such things as Dirty Dancing, Law & Order, Disney's Beauty & the Beast, and numerous shows on Broadway...

I saw a thing about him on the news last night. I had no clue he did the candlestick voice on Beauty and the Beast. Sean and I are big Law & Order fans, he will be missed. Even though he was already off the show.

Oh he won't be missed much as Law & Order is played every hour on some channel somewhere. If, on the off-chance, L&O isn't on... TBS is sure to be airing Dirty Dancing, so fear not.

Meh. I was never a big late night fan. I'm more sad that Jerry Orbach died.

Carson was basically the god of television talk. He was submitting monologue ideas to Letterman up until a few weeks ago, so the man was still the major influence in late night. He will most definitely be missed.

A triple-threat today!!!

Journalist / Essayist / Columnist Hunter S. Thompson killed himself.
Actress / Singer Sandra Dee died of kidney disease.
Singer John Raitt (also Bonnie Raitt's dad) died from complications of pneumonia.

There's just something about a tale of a reporter going on a drug binge while covering an anti-drug convention that amuses the hell out of me.

Who could predict Thompson's copious mixing of LSD and firearms would have such tragic consequences?

I don't think we have for a while. He seemed to hold to the one great book per life limit.
As much as I like HST (I think he's one of the best writers of the last 50 years) he did spawn some of the shittiest imitators I ever seen. He did give credit to first person journal writing, enabling it to pass as real writing. I'm a little happy/little sad he's gone.
