I picked up this book, written by Peter Straub, in the airport. I read two chapters on the plane, and then read a third chapter when I got home. Since I hardly ever do that, this is clearly a good book.

There's a family. A husband, wife, and 15 year old son. The book is narrated by the husband's older brother. The wife commits suicide, and the son goes missing soon after. There's a mystery that apparently turns into some kind of ghost/serial killer story, although I havn't gotten to that point yet.

Straub's writing style is colorful albeit contrived -- it gives me hope that I can be published one day. (I just need to work on my colorful description and I'm set.) I wouldn't call this a page turner, although I have a genuine need to find out exactly what is going on. And that's why I'd recommend it.
