If they really wanted to do a fantastic thing they shouldn't have slammed their logo on it afterwards. The commercial itself put millions in that "not thinking critically" mode many commercials aim to achieve then presented the corporate logo. The desired effect, to me, is obvious.

Shit - I can't even imagine how much time, effort, and cash they put into that commercial. They only placed the logo of the company on the commercial. They didn't drop an 'ice cold beer' or something to cheapen it. I think it was well done and in good taste. If I made that commercial and paid as much as they did - I would at least want to take credit for it.

I personally think Budweiser tastes like piss and have chosen to not drink rather than drink Bud, but I still think they did a fantastic thing with that commercial.

I agree. I will never buy bud, but I think it is a good message.

Ok ... I'll detract my statement once someone has demonstrated that Bud has helped troops directly somehow. Helping pay for equipment and things like that. Because obviously a company that would selflessly put all the time and effort and money into thanking the troops during the superbowl would have already done something similar before.

I stand corrected then, but only via the last link. The other two could also be amounted to publicity had my prior assertion been correct.

I agree on both counts... didn't like the monkey businessmen.

Considering my roommate, brother, a good friend, and mom work for MBNA, I thoroughly enjoyed the monkey businessmen series of commercials. We all laughed at MBNA for many minutes about it.

The guy killing the cat was awesome, as was the one before it by the same company, with the same premise (don't remember what it was about, but it was almost as funny).

A buddy called me right after that commercial saying that he couldn't believe his company "wasted" $2.5 million on Gladys Knight playing Rugby.

I liked the cat killer, the "you're getting robbed," and the first MP3 player/camera commercial with the little old Japanese couple getting funky (and yes... I know it was digitally enhanced, but I still liked seeing it).

The thing that pissed me off about the commercial with the troops was that nobody did that for the soldiers that came back from Vietnam. They just got spit on and disrespected.

Other than that, I liked the commercials with MC Hammer. The one where he was dancing in front of his big huge mansion with the fancy car out front, then the words "15 minutes later.." and they're foreclosing on his house and putting the fancy car up on a tow truck. Classic.

I agree that it sucked for the Vietnam vets, but I'm glad to see that MOST of the country is at least TRYING to rectify that gross-disrespect by treating their soldiers a lot better now.

On an unrelated commercial topic but actually (shock of shocks) thread-related topic:
This morning on 610-WIP Cataldi was saying that the reason the Birds didn't have an effective clock-management style at the end is because McNabb was basically fighting back vomit the last few minutes of the game and Freddie Mitchell was calling the plays in the huddle.
Please take this as "Bill is passing along information he heard" rather than "Bill is making excuses" because The Birds lost fair and square. I'll believe the vomit story when I see it reported somewhere other than Whiner Radio.

Yep you can blame the media for that one. Hard to like people you see portrayed as baby killing tools of the military industrial complex...

Yeah, I know. I suppose I just remain stupidly optimistic that people will listen to their own thoughts rather then what the media blasts into our heads. The premise and the action portrayed in that commercial I completely agree with, all troops certainly deserve that kind of respect.

There was also a commercial for Miller Lite, I think, where they rattled on about how Bud has some new beer out, and Miller saying something about having done it right the first time. Sean was like "Bud has new beer! I must try it!" That commercial backfired.

If I ever have a shitload of money to advertise on the superbowl ... well, I'm not actually going to advertise it. It will just be footage of various beer promotions at gay bars. For example, I know Coors Light will often send out drag queens to hand out tokens that can be exchanged for a beer, dumb shit like that.

Anyway, it will be about twenty seconds of collected footage.

Then a close up of the beer.

Then it will say "is this you beer of choice? Fag."

Verified Story from NBC-10. I guess as excuses go, this is a decent one. Still were beaten by a better team, but it sounds like Donovan got his bell rung pretty hard there.
