Software Engineer, Integration

Aid in engineering verification and integration testing for TruePosition?s Wireless Location System WLS


This person will be an individual contributor in a software development group working with other software engineers in a Solaris/UNIX environment.

The selected individual will enjoy participation to their maximum ability in the preparation of test utilities and integration of a complex distributed environment. This individual will be key contributor in the development of an automated test infrastructure. Individual will work as a team member or individually as needed.


Education: BS or equivalent work experience. BSCS or EE desired.


Education in software development or experience with integration of complex distributed systems.
Experience in wireless communications is preferred.
Knowledge of software development in a Solaris/UNIX environment required.
Knowledge of SNMP, TCP/IP, IP routing, C++, and Java is a definite plus.
Knowleddge of UNIX/LINUX adminstration a plus
Knowledge of scripting languages (Perl, Bash) a plus

Component Test Engineer

The WLG Component Test role is a very technical hands-on engineering position. As a Test Engineer, your responsibilities include performing various aspects of software testing activities in the Test Engineering Department that include, but are not limited to, the following:
Demonstrate a knowledge of the design, function, and operation of the system with a particular emphasis on both your area of specialization and on new features
Show professionalism, attitude, and productivity
Participate in test planning and integration activities across multiple engineering groups
Work diligently to meet your deadlines
Ensure that the tests in your area of specialization cover all relevant requirements in an efficient manner
Identify opportunities for automation
Communicate effectively with staff & management within and outside of the Test Engineering department
Participate in test planning, execution, tracking, and reporting ? including developing test plans and procedures
Design, develop, modify, and maintain all manners of Testware (software & scripts used to test our products)
Execute specified tests
Improve methods of test planning, execution, tracking, and reporting
Identify and document encountered problems ? and work to make progress with testing in spite of a component or systematic deficiency
Work with others to interpret test results and make appropriate decisions based upon these outcomes
Seek out assistance, correct information, or further explanation when you have reason to be uncertain about a schedule, testing, or technical issue
Participate in efforts to research and debug problems and identify areas for improvement of overall component and system quality
Maintain and operate our Wireless Location System (WLS) test bed and equipment

Education: BS CS/EE or equivalent training or experience
Experience: 2+ years software test and/or development
Proficiency in UNIX shell scripting, expert-level preferred
A good understanding of the following: One or more higher-level programming languages (e.g. C/C++, Java, etc.), SQL, TCP/IP Networking, UNIX / Linux, Windows, test automation.
Exposure to defining, planning and executing test plans/procedures
Good writing and verbal skills, and a good understanding of component testing practices and methodologies.
Preferred candidates will also possess a good understanding of one or more of the following: Wireless Technologies (AMPS, TDMA, GSM, CDMA), SNMP, IBM/Rational ClearQuest and/or ClearCase.
Must be able to work the hours required to achieve the goals of the group and company.
