I'm sure a lot of people on this forum will agree that Hackers is without a doubt the worst ( and perhaps most offensive ) movie ever. I mean, this flick offends me more than the fact that Bush is trying to pass legislation by which my tax dollars are used to support my own discrimination.

I listen to Rant Radio all the time now, and every once in awhile they'll play these 5 second audio clips from movies. Every once in awhile, a Hackers clip comes on and I really have to grit my teeth. Let's examine:

"I need to get out of this place ... I need to get ... a computer!"
Listen dipshit, I don't know what you're talking about. The Information Superhighway doesn't go anyway, except, perhaps, the minds of troubled 15 year olds with superiority complexes.

"Send a distress signal over the Internet. Hackers of the world, unite!"
Send a distress signal? SEND A DISTRESS SIGNAL?! What the fuck do you think this is, Star Trek? If I ever hear of anyone trying to send a distress signal over the internet, I'm going to kick them in the balls repeatedly and then I'll cut off their hands so they don't have to worry about making the mistake twice. And another thing. Hackers can't even agree on what fucking text editor is best for writing code, let alone how the code should be written and what code is worth writing. Why the fuck would they suddenly unite because of your pissant distress signal and weak plot-device cause?

There was another quote the station plays a lot that I can't remember. But as soon as I hear it, I'll rant on.

Killer clowns from outer space.

On the note of Hackers, I only pay attention when angelina jolie is on camera, so meh.

The best thing about Hackers is that its completely impossible. It's what makes watching the movie so much fun. You have to do that temporary suspension of disbelief thing. Sure, no one can make a UI that controls the traffic signals of an entire city, but that's the whole point (not to mention the fact they are hacking w/ macs). Now if you will excuse me I am going to rollerblade off to my secret hacker lair complete with ramps and "books", where I will play large screen video games that really looks like a screen saver.

Final note: Halycon and on and on was on the soundtrack to the movie... that song frelling rules.

Dude, that's such a great B movie. I mean, if they'd done a MST3K for that, you would have loved it. And my sister is scared of clowns, allegedly, because of that movie.

Yeah, Hackers really is one of the most unintentionally funny movies ever made. IIRC, it took more than a week for them to get the movie's website online because people kept taking it down. What made it truly great is how much effort the director must have gone into putting words or phrases in from the hacking underground of the 80s to make it seem cool. Like the excessive use of the word "elite."

"Hack the Gibson!"
"Hack the Planet!"
"Information wants to be free!"

Oh, I remembered the other quote that really pissed me off.

"I am a hacker and this is ... my Manifesto." I mean, really, that really makes me feel homicidal.

Yeah, except that it's real and has been around a lot longer than Hackers. That manifesto's been in 2600 since the late 70s.
