Well, all that extra ice I got from coaching appears to have been too much for my 3 year old ice skates. The tongue of my right skate tore off from inside the boot. I was going to take it to a tailor’s this weekend to get it repaired, but I ran out of time with all my other errands. I went to get my skates for coaching last night and the tongue had fallen out, nowhere to be seen. I had been debating about getting a new pair for awhile anyway, but when I saw the “SALE” signs in the pro shop, I knew it was some kind of omen. About an hour or so later, I walked out with a pair of Easton Synergy 1100s. I had ‘em baked in the shop, and then skated with the kids during warmup to start breaking them in. Originally $400, I got them for $285. Yeah, that’s a lot of money, but they’re incredibly light, well-made and comfy. They should easily last me another 4-5 years. Tonight I have my class at 7, which should be a very good break in for them, and then the last regular season game for spring on the Bearcats. Playoffs start on Sunday, I believe.
Also, after visiting my terrific mother and sister for their special day, Mom let me borrow her first season of West Wing on DVD. Laura and I watched the first couple the other night and loved it. Can’t wait for more. Thanks Mom!
