Serendipity sock toe, 2nd attempt and still not right

This is getting really, really boring.

I’ve started these damn socks twice now, and they’re coming off the needles again. Last time, I was so happy with the feel and color of the yarn, I just kept zipping along, happy as a clam in warm mud. When I finally came up for air, I realized that I had increased it to where it would comfortably fit over an Egyptian pyramid. (Well, it was almost that big)  (Hey, they might need protection from the sand, ya know, after all these years)  The second time, I sensibly COUNTED the damn increases and stopped doing them where I should. But will you look at the pooling. It just ain’t right, and this beautiful yarn deserves better. Went back to WendyKnits blog and checked her pictures – she made socks with the same yarn. Of course, HERS aren’t pooling!! Oh, no. Not hers. Beautiful striping, just like it’s supposed to.  It’s only mine are off.  As is the one holding the needles.

The issue is probably needle size. I was using 3’s, cause they’re easier on my hands, wrists and eyes.  I’m going down one size, to 2’s, and starting again. Sadly, the toe-increase part looks good, and it isn’t until you get it full size and put some rows onto it that the pooling shows. Which means, I’ll waste another good bit of knitting time before I know if changing the needle size corrects the problem.

If I have to rip it out a third time, I’m just gonna wind the yarn into two nice, neat cakes, and put it away for safekeeping somewhere high up and work on a sweater for November’s National Knit a Sweater Month.  When this nervous tic disappears, I’ll try again.

I’m only doing any of this because I feel the need of a bit more stress in my life.   Putting each one of a set of twins back into their cribs 452,318 times last night, until after 11pm didn’t do it for me.
